TWO DESERTS, ONE SKY
ART-BASED GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

The 2018 project is an outgrowth from the original Flag Expedition. This project is committed to arid land environmental education and dedicated to fostering an understanding between cultures of our shared responsibilities to our fragile planet.
The 2018 project will be conducted in two phases:
• Phase I_WANT Expeditions
• Phase II_Educational Outreach/ TWO DESERTS,ONE SKY

Phase I_WANT Expedition Central India Eco-Tour
Jan 26 - Feb 8
Schafer wil accompany WANT Expedition’s eco-tour "JUNGLE BOOK OF INDIA" as wildlife photographer and artist-in-residence and will travel from Delhi to Kanha, Pench and Satpura National Parks and the Taj Mahal before returning to Delhi. During this trip, as internet connections allow, Schafer will correspond with students on both continents, answering questions, posting photographs and recording observations of the unique ecosystems of central India.
Phase II_Shri Jasnath Asan, Panchla Siddha,Rajastan
Feb 9 - Mar 1
Schafer will travel to Shri Jasnath Asan, a 500-year-old ashram, in the Rajasthan Visit . MAPS for more information. The historic ashram, in Panchla Siddha, India, is located in a remote rural area in the heart of the Marwar region of Rajasthan, India and is one of the region’s oldest educational, social, and religious institutions. During her three week stay there she will explore and documented the flora, fauna, and landscapes of the region. as well as working with local students and the village community.
Schafer, Adelson Educational Center instructor, Paula Garrett, and partners will help students from Rajasthan connect with their peers in the Mojave Desert of Southern Nevada. Students will be able to experience project-based-learning on a global scale and gain an understanding of, not just the issues being faced in their community, but also of similar issues and concerns around the world.
